The War Report
Capone Bone, Neva Die Alone, LA LA, Illegal Life
Some may have issues with Nore's rap style, but when he teamed up with his good friend Capone, the chemistry was magic.
Some great tracks, on point production and pretty good pacing throughout the album.
Underrated gets thrown around a lot, but this term genuinely belongs to him.
Maybe it is his subject matter, or has never made a "respected" track. But if we just focus on the skill of rap in term of flow, word-play, rhythm, creativity, then he is one of the best to ever do it.
This is very rare with me and music. Normally when I listen to an album, and I really am not feeling it, that's how it stays. So it is strange that I didn't like this album on the first listen, but the more I heard it, it got better.
And I do believe, this is similar with Written Testimony, Jay has so many hidden jewels in his lyrics that you have to use headphones to truly appreciate the content. He doesn't make club music, but poetry that is to be carefully listened to.
All in all, it is a very different rap album, and it even veers away from the genre with strange collaborations that somehow end up making sense.
Really should have been his debut. But at least it is released for people to enjoy.
